What Defines Me?

The one thing that probably most defines me is my friends. Surrounding myself with good people I can trust and take after is very important. A friend is a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection for. My friends in essence are a little bit of me, someone who I can be myself around without judgment or penalty. Someone who has the same traits as me that I can relate to, but also someone that has the same character as myself is someone I can find myself getting along with. Not all my friends are the same, having different types people is important so I’m not always getting the same thing over and over again. The people I associate myself with are a big indicator of who am and who I will become.
Just like Gloria Anzadula with her many forms of Spanish and English I have many forms of friends. From jocks to nerds having a wide spectrum of friends is healthy and beneficial. Everyone has different sides to them and different personality traits too. People have layers and each layer is a different personality that you may have in common with another. For me I’d like to think of myself to have many different types of friends. There’s: the gaming kids, the lacrosse guys, the party friends, and even the friends who I can just sit down with and gave long talks about our lives. Everyone is different but I like to think there is a little bit of me in all my friends. Gloria Anzadula really stated it best in a line from her essay How to Tame a Wild Tongue “I am my language. Until I can take pride in my language, I can’t take pride in myself.” (pg 6, line30-31) She really hit the nail in the head on that one. Just like she is her language I am my friends, and having pride in them is really having pride in myself. They reflect who I am and I’m sure I reflect who they are too. The people I associate myself with are my friends and they define me as a person.
